Tridiagonal is the result of 25 years of applied expertise of the founder in Scientific Computing and Graphics, as a user and  a developer in the Industry, and then with Computer Manufacturers and Software companies. Activities are and will be numerous centered on scientific computing, visualization and high-end graphics and simulation.

The context :

The innovation race for vector and parallel computers, stars of the american IT industry in the eighties,  slew down regularly since several years due to several factors including compared costs of proprietary processors and standard microprocessors, open source growth for OSs and applications, and the trend to decrease fixed costs favoring integration instead of pure creation and innovation. This trend was confirmed in the mid-eighties with the growing success of West Coast based (Stanford-Berkeley) companies which slowly but surely replaced the East Coast based (Harvard-MIT)  innovative startups around the 90's (date of the famous Eugene Brooks's "Killer Micros" paper introducing the move to less expensive and more efficient supercomputers using standard microprocessors instead of powerful but expensive proprietary processors).

Concentration is now the general trend for Industry, as a result of the finance-only driven policy, and the following diagram tries to synthesize this trend towards multi-disciplinary solutions, built from continuous acquisitions and merges. Innovation certainly suffered from this trend to rationalization on the hardware side, but new software technologies may have gained from this as a differenciator, necessary for competitivity.

Hopefully, Innovation is not dead, and Tridiagonal will focus on finding and promoting innovative hardware and software solutions, as, although the progress made in 20 years is fantastic, there is still a huge amount of work in front of us, especially with the massive multicore processors trend...

Concurrently to technologies diffusion, Tridiagonal plans to start several applied R&D and services activities.

Tridiagonal investigate several  applied R&D domains, aiming at hardware and software solutions improving solutions in Tridiagonal's targeted markets, including Intensive Computing, advanced graphics and special effetcs based on physics phemomena simulations, scientific visualization and real-time simulation, and related  data management optimization.
